Ride up with the Hochriesbahn
Views: Inn valley, Rosenheim basin, Wendelstein

Our home mountain in one of Germany's oldest flying areas. The paragliding area in the Chiemsee / Chiemgau region (Upper Bavaria) has one speciality: the Hochries can be reached on several beautiful hiking trails, usually from the north side.

The route via the middle station, the Wimmer and Seiten alpine pastures is especially popular – it offers by far the finest view over the Rosenheim basin, the Inn valley and the Wendelstein.

The Hochrieshaus at 1,565 m above sea level

A beautiful trail along the Hochries's west ridge ends at the paragliding launch and the Hochrieshaus of the Rosenheim Alpine Club section at 1,565 m. The ridge walk can be extended at will – east towards the Priener Hütte or west over the summits of Karkopf and Feichteck: the view rewards every metre.

Looking south you see the famous massif of the Zahmer and Wilder Kaiser towards the main Alpine ridge, and Kufstein in the Inn valley. To the north-east, Lake Chiemsee is close by; to the north-west, on a clear day, you can even make out the high-rises of Munich.

The Wendelstein in the background

To the west, the vast Inn valley opens up with the Wendelstein in the background. Catch a good flying day and you can watch paragliders circle calmly and steadily in the thermals for hours.

This is often exactly where the wish is born to take to the air yourself with an experienced tandem pilot – and to discover free flight in all its fascination. Simply book a tandem paragliding flight at the Hochries.

Common questions

How do I get to the Hochries launch?

Comfortably with the Hochriesbahn to the top station – the launch is on the west ridge next to the Hochrieshaus. Your pilot confirms the exact meeting point when calling the evening before.

Why is the Hochries your home mountain?

It rises directly above Samerberg, where we are based, and is one of Germany's oldest flying areas – it's where we fly most often when wind and thermals cooperate.

Ready for your flight?

You pick the flight and the day – we pick the mountain on the morning, by the weather. If the weather says no, we move you to a better day, free.
